Last night as a bit of a treat the BF and I decided to go to Pied a Terre, one of London’s most exciting two Michelin stared restaurants. Shane Osborne is the chef at Pied a Terre and is a fellow Australian. He is the only Australian chef to have two stars, so eating at his restaurant was a double pleasure of both excitement and unbridled patriotism.

The interior of the restaurant is warm but formal; the friendly wait staff help to diffuse the formal atmosphere instantly making you feel at home.

They handle GF and allergies extremely well and will simply alter any dish on the menu to meet your specific needs. This is done without fuss or burden, lightening the entire experience. Rarely is it as easy to order GF and feel that you are not being a hassle to the staff and kitchen. They even served gluten free bread, fresh throughout the meal. They did try to serve me some rye bread at one point as a slight misunderstanding, but the general awareness of allergies is excellent. My meal was all GF but any of the BF’s dishes pictured below can be eaten GF.

The food is elegant and exciting and the flavours are effortlessly balanced. The seared tuna that I had for starters was without doubt on of the best dishes I have ever eater. The soft tuna was perfectly balanced by the combination of chive, black olive and shallot. They serve lovely refreshers between courses and the petit fours we ate with coffee were delicious.

The wine was also divine. We had a fabulous Pinot Noir from New Zealand, Olssens Jackson Barry 2006, £66. We splashed out on the wine, but it was well worth it. We also had dessert wine which was matched to our cheese course, which rounded out the meal perfectly.

Below is the menu we ate and pictures of the courses.

Pepper Seared Yellow Fin Tuna. Chive Essence, Crushed Potato, Black Olive and Shallot Dressing
Herb Crusted Best End of Orkney Lamb, Red Onion Marmalade, Capers and Garlic, Lamb Shank Boudin and Anchovies
Skate Wing Poached in Beurre Noisette with Belly of Suckling Pig, Sweetcorn, Roscoff Onions and Pickled Chanterelles
Roasted Breast of Anjou Pigeon, Confit Leg stuffed with Foie Gras, Braised Turnip and Pain d’Epice Crumb
